Defining Early Experiences: A pre-YouTube era skydiving video obsession
As a child, Jake Carlow grew up in Washington exploring the outdoors and growing his passion for adventure. His passion for aviation and parachutes began in Florida in 2003 when his family moved across the country to the Tampa Bay area. The funny part of Jake’s story is he didn’t turn 18 for four more years, so he spent his time out of school saving money, packing parachutes and watching videos of Skydiving and BASE Jumping with his good buddy Dan (YouTube wasn’t even a thing yet!!). Then, in 2007, the local skydiving dropzone was the proud recipient of four years of Jake’s hard earned savings and he jumped from a plane for the first time… and never looked back.

A Central Oregon local, I fell in love with skydiving while restarting my life in my 30s. After trying bungee jumping, I figured jumping from a plane was the next step—once my parachute opened, I was hooked.
Beyond skydiving, I’m passionate about aviation. I volunteer teaching WWII history and aircraft mechanics, am learning to fly hot air balloons, and dream of earning my private pilot’s license.
