About Jake Carlow

As a child, Jake Carlow grew up in Washington exploring the outdoors and growing his passion for adventure. His passion for aviation and parachutes began in Florida in 2003 when his family moved across the country to the Tampa Bay area. The funny part of Jake’s story is he didn’t turn 18 for four more years, so he spent his time out of school saving money, packing parachutes and watching videos of Skydiving and BASE Jumping with his good buddy Dan (YouTube wasn’t even a thing yet!!). Then, in 2007, the local skydiving dropzone was the proud recipient of four years of Jake’s hard earned savings and he jumped from a plane for the first time… and never looked back.

By 2010, Jake was balancing the life of a college student and the life of a skydiving instructor. Jake traveled around the US and Caribbean sharing the adventure of skydiving with newcomers to the sport. When he wasn’t in the plane or in class, you could find him BASE jumping, climbing, camping and traveling all over the world. By 2013, Jake graduated and moved to Washington, D.C. with his girlfriend Amy to begin his government career in public service where he also pursued aviation in a new form- by becoming a helicopter pilot. From DC, he and Amy moved to Las Vegas where he took a full-time opportunity sharing his love for skydiving again as a tandem instructor. In 2018, Jake and Amy settled back home in the Pacific Northwest where they were married and currently enjoy an adventurous lifestyle amongst the mountains with their dogs, cats, goats and horse.

At 17 years in the sport and over 8,500 skydives, Jake continues to stay actively involved in all things aviation- BASE jumping, wingsuiting, paragliding, paramotoring, airplanes (Amy’s a pilot too) and helicopters. He comes to Skydive Bend with an unwavering commitment to fostering a safe and fun skydiving atmosphere while empowering people like you to step outside of your comfort zone to experience the thrill of skydiving.

What is your primary role at the Skydive Bend?

I wear many hats! I am the Dropzone Manager, but depending on the day you might see me in the office or in the sky or both!

How many jumps do you have?

In total, I have more than 8,500 Skydives and over 600 BASE jumps. If I am not instructing new skydivers I am usually flying around in my wingsuit or hiking with my friends and family.

What is your USPA License Number?

My license number is D-29908.

What led you to pursue your skydiving license?

After moving from Washington to Florida at 13 years old, my next door neighbor and I became best friends and were the wild ones of our friend group. Daydreaming of parachutes and flying planes, we spent way too much time watching BASE jumping and skydiving videos if we weren’t bumming rides to the theme parks or the wind tunnel. The only thing missing was an acceptable birthday. Once I turned 18, I spent every day I could afford skydiving, and the rest is history!

What’s the most memorable skydive you’ve made?

Honestly, it’s hard to sum it up to just one memory, but I’d have to say it would be my wife’s 4th tandem skydive. Her first three tandems were with me as her instructor, and although they were awesome jumps, her fourth tandem was with another tandem instructor and I got to jump out with her holding hands, and watching her smile ear to ear as we freefell over the turquoise waters and white sands of the Pearl Islands in Panama.
